Yves Klein

Yves Klein , french artist is most renowned for his monochrome paintings and is said to be one of the leaders in the Nouveau realism movement. His anthropometry events consisted of a performance in which he would paint naked women and the she would print her body into the space. It was seen a controversial but at the same time the start of a signifiant movement that would change the way paintings are created.

I can see how it can be seen a controversial using a women as a paint brush almost states that women are a object. Using there bodies as a tool to make the art. However the women did this in full knowledge of what they where doing and stated that they where treated with the upmost respect , so the work could be seen as a symbol of empowerment. Women given the choice as to weather they want to do this or not and than actual women's bodies are being printed on the space with no editing , they are a true reflection. This could be seen as women embracing how they are and being bold about it , no fear. Strength around it as well and I think that they helped braking boundaries of how women are traditional depicted in paintings for example Botticelli's Birth of Venus where are women is depicted naked , covering up for her own modesty with on lookers. It shows the juxtaposition that Klein created, printing women bodies with no guard just a true depiction, not conforming to 'the male gaze'.
